You Become What You Think About Most
Back in the 80’s I first heard the phrase “You become what you think about most” in the first quest to climb the mountain of success.
It always seemed strange to me, as I would humorously retort, “that cannot be possible, for if it was, I would look like Cindy Crawford”. Some people were amused, others not so much. My point was that while I understood the idea, there were limitations to the concept.
Each of us has an amazing array of resources to “motivate” and “inspire” us to success. Whether it be “Think and Grow Rich”, a true classic, to watching videos from the late great Zig Ziglar, to any one of thousands of resources on the subject of improving our lives.
As most people have now gotten over their “New Year’s resolutions” and slipped back into the malaise of everyday life and reality, it is clear that at any point, on any given day a person can make the life changing decisions to stand apart from the crowd and make their move.
In the song “Slip Sliding Away” from the successful Paul Simon, one can get the impression that we have choices and by not making a choice we inadvertently increase the risk of “slip sliding away” presumably into obscurity.
The price of success is not easy, for if it was, everyone would be successful. In America, there is a huge “mindset shift” taking place regarding the fairness of the playing field that separates the successful from the unsuccessful. Instead of worrying about that, what if you simply did what you set out to accomplish and accelerated the process by adding a few more work hours to your week?
We live in a country with boundless options. Why not pick one and go for it? “What you think about does matter”, and you can make a positive difference when you are surrounded by those who are supportive. While an occasional non-believer can motivate you with a snarky comment to prove them wrong, stay as far away as possible from the negative, as the universe is a powerful force for good when you connect with positive people for the right reasons and motives.
Today is your day, make it special and memorable with a new determined attitude to “come from contribution” and start changing the world by looking within first, and taking the steps to achieve like never before through tireless random acts of kindness.
