Alice Cooper was brilliant to write a song that would stand the test of time. Each year, ‘school’s out for summer’ is played on radio stations across the country, as those in school regardless of age get to celebrate the passage into summer. For some like me, they will go to summer school three summers in a row in order to graduate from college or whatever level, but the point is the same. We all know that during grade school we get somewhere around 2 ½ to 3 months of summer time from the grind.

As adults we have to adjust to the realization that summer arrives and for most people work goes on. Yes, there may be a week or two of family vacation but few as a percentage of the population overall are rewarded with the entire summer to lay around the pool, the beach, travel to exotic locations, etc.

It’s important in the real estate profession to stay after it. Many agents relax and stop working. This is your moment to make your move by preparing for the future, and converting market share to your account. Go to social functions, meet the neighbors you see hanging around in the longer evenings or walking through your neighborhood. Network and offer to be a good friend to more than usual when it comes to your sphere of influence. Create a plan and work it, like you are the only person who has one, and everyone else wants your secret sauce to creating success. You can do it, it just takes discipline. Remember the ABCD’s of business school, and you can’t help but succeed:

A = Attitude (Have a positive one, for everyone has an ‘attitude’ but not all are good.)

B = Beliefs  (Execute on your beliefs)

C = Commitment (If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right)

D = Discipline (Have the discipline to see things through)

E = Effort (You must leave the field of competition exhausted each day, knowing tomorrow you do it all over again)

F = Failure (Leave that to others when the final score is tallied. You will need to fail to learn, just never quit.)

There are no guarantees except one, and that one is that if you never try, you will never advance while ‘school’s out for summer’.
